I'm using just plain yellow cake mix and adding in orange soda instead oil and water.
Here's my question:

What kind of frosting should I use?
Buttercream is WAY to sweet, and cream cheese is a no go.

Does anyone have a mellow frosting recipe that won't be sickingly sweet? The cupcakes are already very sweet themselves.

Well I baked a batch of yummy cupcakes last week while I was on vacation. I used yellow cake mix and orange soda, so they were vegan (although the frosting ruined that, it's store bought stuff.
